Domestic Abuse Information and Resources 

Domestic Abuse, defined, is a pattern of behaviors involving physical, sexual, economic and emotional abuse, alone or in combination, by an intimate partner often for the purpose of establishing or maintaining power and control over the other partner. While domestic violence occurs in all types of relationships it is overwhelmingly a problem of violence perpetrated by men against women. 
 

Physical Abuse    

  • Slapping
  • Punching
  • Kicking
  • Use of weapons throwing objects
  • Denial of physical needs (food, sleep, medical attention)

Sexual Abuse:

  • Non-consenting sexual acts/behaviors
  • Use of force (including threats/weapons)
  • "Guilt-tripping" partner into having sex
  • Degrading or sexually attacking comments aimed at partner
  • Any touch that is unwanted

Emotional Abuse:

  • Blaming partner for everything that goes wrong
  • Controlling what partner does, wears, reads
  • Limiting contact with family & friends
  • Threats of future abuse
  • Tells children, family or friends lies about partner

Economic Abuse:

  • Control of assets, car, credit cards
  • Refusal to let partner get a job
  • Puts bills in partner's name, then runs up charges
  • Refusal of access to money, food, clothing and other basic needs

DIVERSION BURGLARIES

Please be very cautious when vendors such as roofers, driveway, and or handymen knock on your door.  If someone knocks on your door for service DO NOT LET THEM IN. If you are interested in the service, ask for references and business information and advise the vendor that you will reach the company by telephone.  If you are suspicious and or afraid, please call 911 immediately.

CRIME PREVENTION

Officer Serzan of the Mullica Township Police dept is trained to advise citizens on how to best protect themselves from criminal attacks at home, at work, and in public places. Officer Serzan will make arrangements to come out to your community or business to discuss and train citizens on this important topic.

Although great effort has been made at the elimination of crime, most all of our crime control methods have been directed at the investigation and surveillance, apprehension, prosecution, incarceration. probation/parole, and rehabilitation of actors who have committed offenses against society.  these efforts after the fact have not been successful in eliminating crime.  Crime prevention is a direct control method on that it applies to before the fact efforts to reduce criminal opportunity.  It reduces the environmental opportunity for the crime to occur rather than seek to alter the criminals behavior or desire.  our past strategy to control crime by treating offenders after the crime had been committed can be compared to treating polio victims by medication and physical therapy after they had contracted the decease.  Crime prevention is a systematic and effective strategy to reduce or eliminate the opportunity for the crime to occur.

HISTORY OF CRIME PREVENTION

The English experience:  The development of the principles which form the basic practice of modern day crime prevention can be followed in the history of police service.  Great Britain served as the father of modern police service which fostered crime prevention, although the concept did not emerge until early in the nineteenth century.  Until that time, all action against crime was taken only after the crime had actually been committed.  then the principal deterrent was swift and severe punishment for persons found guilty.  All citizens were expected, however, to play their part.  This is the first principle of crime  prevention - public cooperation.  It is no wonder that crime, especially in the cities, was rampant and it was unsafe to walk the streets at any time of day.

ATTENTION:  This is a brief listing of Police activities.  Persons listed here as arrestees are innocent until  adjudicated in a court of law.

REMINDER TO MOTORISTS:  WHEN TRAVELING ON WET ROADS AND BAD WEATHER,  SLOW DOWN, GIVE YOURSELF EXTRA TIME TO ARRIVE AT YOUR LOCATION.  MAINTAIN EXTRA SPACE BETWEEN VEHICLES WHILE TRAVELING TO INCREASE REACTION TIME.  BE SAFE, BUCKLE UP AND STAY ALERT.

MOTORIST PLEASE BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR DEER.  THIS TIME OF YEAR THEY ARE ON THE MOVE AND OCCASIONALLY   WILL RUN OUT IN FRONT OF YOUR VEHICLE.  IF YOU STRIKE A DEER, DO NOT PANIC, STAY IN CONTROL OF YOUR VEHICLE, BRAKE AND SLOWLY PULL YOUR VEHICLE OVER TO A SAFE LOCATION. CALL THE POLICE. 

ARREST 8-19-08 Ptl Carricarte arrested Mr William Lloyd for outstanding warrants following a motor vehicle stop.

DWI ARREST 8-16-08  Det Zeck and Det Thompson arrested Mr William Russell for DWI.

ARREST 8-10-08  Ptl Creamer and Ptl Ohara arrested Mr Leonard Smith on on a outstanding warrant.  Officers made the arrest while checking on a suspicious vehicle ocupied by Smith.

ROBBERY  8-7-08  The Mullica Twp Police Dept is investigating a report of a robbery at Variety Farms .

ARREST  8-5-08  Ptl Carricarte arrested Mr John Wilks on several outstanding warrants.  Wilks was lodged in County jail in default of bail.

BURGLARY  8-2-08  A burglary report was taken from a Devonshire resident this week.

STABBING AT OAKCREST FARMS 7-7-08 The Mullica Twp Police dept is investigating a stabbing at a local Blueberry farm.  Oakcrest Farms in the Nesco section of Mullica Twp.  The Victim Mr Oscar Lopez, a farm labor worker at this farm was transported to Kessler Hospital for stab wounds. 

DWI ARREST  7-5-08 Sgt Thompson arrested Mr Robert Gallo of Greenbank for driving while intoxicated.

DWI ARREST  7-5-08 Sgt Gavin arrested Mr Leith Thompson Of Pennsauken for driving while intoxicated.
